Hi I'm Kim, thank you for stopping by my little space in blogland. I joined in on the Grow Your Blog party, which was organized by the talented Vicki of 2 Bags Full..She very generously put in a lot of  her precious time to bring this party (over 500) together for bloggers who would like to see their own blog following grow, AND meet some new friends and be inspired by them.  Thank you very much Vicki for you time, talent and inspiration!

I started this blog,  just a little over a year ago, as a place to keep track of my makes, share ideas and meet new people.  I hope someday to inspire someone to take up needle and thread and enjoy it as much as I do.  I've enjoyed this year of blogging, met some wonderful people and learned some "techy" things along the way.  I'm still getting the hang of things, but Live and Learn is my motto.

I began my 'sewing life' as a young girl of 12 (many yrs ago lol) with embroidery.  I loved it so much I just kept trying new things.  So as not to bore you with details, in the end the main part of my little home business is sewing for babies (bonnets, booties, special occasion and christening gowns) and brides,(altering and/or creating gowns, prom dresses, headpieces, clutches etc.) hence my blog name Babes and Brides, but I love EPP, quilting, making little dolls/rabbits, and fabric flowers.  I Love all things Shabby, Retro and Vintage and this is what I share here on my little space in blogland.

To celebrate the Grow Your Blog party I've created something special to give away to one of you !!  It's a little shabby fabric Cuff Bracelet ...I hope you like it.

I've used bits and pieces of  new and vintage fabric, lace, buttons and beads.  If you would like to win this gift from me just leave me a comment, telling me what the weather is like where you are at,,,we are having cold, windy, snowy weather today.   A winner will be picked by random and announced on this blog posted on February 15th, 2014.  Please be sure I can reach you, if I can't find your email to contact you I won't be able to send you my gift.

I do hope you will stop by again sometime.   On my left sidebar at the top you can find  buttons for bloglovin, IG, Pinterest or FB if you would like to follow me.

Now I'm off to PARTY and visit some new blogs!!!

                                    Until Next Time

TESTING, Testing....

Wooohooo....a couple of weeks ago Samantha of  At home with Mrs.H, sent out requests for a new pattern of hers to be tested.  Now I'm not an experienced purse/bag maker, but this pattern is for beginners and I decided to try my hand at testing with this pattern.....It is called The Sling Bag and it is a free pattern she is offering on her Craftsy Store HERE !!

When my daughter, who has a *little* purse fetish, saw this bag she picked the fabrics and said I had to make it for her !!  At the very least I didn't have to mull over my stash and decide on fabrics or colors.  So this is my (our) Sling Bag.....

My first zipper pocket in the lining.....easy, peasy with Samantha's instructions...yay!!!  It was also the first time I put in a magnetic snap closure,,,,, why did I wait so long to try this, duh?!

I am definitely going to be making The Sling Bag for myself.  I love this size bag,,,for toting my knitting/crochet around, for traveling or just everyday use because I usually end up taking the "kitchen sink" everywhere I go, ugh!    I would totally recommend this pattern, not just because it's FREE, it is a well written pattern with excellent instructions and lots of photos for the visual learner.  The biggest thing that came to mind while testing this pattern is that I have Paid good money for patterns that have little, to poor instructions.  Not this pattern, even the beginner would not have a problem, but IF you did find something you don't quite understand  Mrs.H is available to answer all your questions.  Not only is she a prolific Purse/bag pattern maker,,,,,she is a total Sweetheart and is always more than willing to help with anything you might need.   So, why not give it a try..... you can find Samantha on her blog... At home with Mrs.H where you can find links to all her Purse Patterns and purse making supplies or this direct link to the Sling Bag download on Craftsy !!!   Have Fun !!

We are in a deep freeze right now,,,,,hope you are snuggly warm!
Until next time....

It took me forever to get this far.....but I love it!!  Yeah, I missed a few points matching up....I'll fix them later.  I get so excited to see it finished I kinda, sorta rush,,,do you ever do that ?  LOL

We have some cold (frigid) days coming, so stay warm and cozy if it's heading your way too.  I have a couple of things on the go that hopefully will be able to share with you later this week!!!

I gave.....

Last fall Mollie of Rose and Odin hosted an Ugly Christmas Stocking Swap....and I was the lucky lady to receive Mollie's name to make a Stocking and fill it with goodies.  I used the Night before Christmas poem as a theme to create items to fill the "Ugly Stocking" with...I didn't want to crash anyone's pc so I didn't upload all the items but I'm sure you get the idea!!! The last two pics are what a friend of mine requested...a couple of cute little dolls for her daughters...A Harry Potter, and a Raggedy Ann doll.  These dolls are only about 6 inches tall, all sewn by hand, but I have so much fun making them.

I received....

This is the stocking and goodies I received in the swap...Look at the sparkly red and green...so much fun!!!  The wonderful Jeana made it for me, thank you Jeana K.  The ornaments are still giving off a wonderful scent.
Until next time...
stay warm..

....and a season for every activity under the Heavens; Ecclesiastes3:1-8

Hello Dear Friends,,,I hope your Christmas was joyful and your New Year merry and bright.  I have been absent from blogging for a couple of reasons; first off my daughter started on line schooling as our form for homeschooling.  It took awhile to get used to the routine and techy stuff!!   Then my hubby lost his job which sorta knocked the wind out of us.  But the biggest jolt was my Mom suddenly becoming ill 3 days before Thanksgiving, and passing away on the 20th of December.  bing, Bang....BOOM!  Just like that, my life changed.

I think it's time to start blogging again,,,,see you soon

This picture was taken the day we held her memorial service,  in Daytona Bch, FL
north of where she lived....we knew it was Mom saying she was ok.
